Chicago Climate Exchange
Bank of America is a member of the Chicago Climate Exchange, the world's first voluntary emissions exchange with a legally binding integrated trading system to reduce greenhouse gasses. We are the first financial institution to join, and we hope others will follow. Our membership in the Exchange is a key step in the development of our carbon emission credit-trading platform.
Members of the Exchange agree to reduce their carbon footprint by a set amount, which is currently 6 percent by 2010, from a 2000 baseline. Members that exceed their commitment can sell their excess reductions to those less fortunate in meeting the agreement. Thus, the exchange makes operational a cap-and-trade system that is a model we support for potential federal greenhouse gas legislation. Bank of America is also a member of the Chicago Climate Futures Exchange.
