Sustainable Environment, Sustainable Cost Savings

As part of its $20 billion commitment to support the growth of environmentally sustainable businesses that address global climate change, we've committed $1.4 billion to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification requirements in all new construction of office facilities and banking centers. This is in addition to our $1.5 billion investment to construct environmentally progressive office towers in Charlotte, N.C. and New York City.

The bank's commitment, which produces long-term cost savings and immediate environmental benefits, includes a pilot project in Southern California that is striving to achieve LEED PlatinumTM certification as one of the country's most environmentally responsible banking centers; a renovation of the bank's corporate headquarters in Charlotte that resulted in the pilot floors achieving LEED GoldTM certification, the first renovation project in North Carolina to achieve that distinction; and renovation projects designed to achieve LEED® certification from New York to Chicago to Texas.
