The Nature Conservancy

The mission of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Bank of America is proud to have partnered with TNC for more than 20 years to help in this vital work. With a strong belief in TNC's science-based approach to conserving natural habitats, we've donated more than $3 million to help fund the organization's conservation efforts in the U.S. and abroad.

Since 1990, our Conservation Check Program with TNC has generated more than $400,000 for preservation projects. The program works by allowing bank customers to purchase checks that display nature scenes, and a portion of their check order is donated to help fund important initiatives.

In 1998, Bank of America helped form TNC's International Leadership Council (ILC). We are a continuing participant in this leading corporate forum, focused on addressing biodiversity preservation, habitat conservation, resource management and the threats of climate change. We are currently deeply involved in TNC's efforts on Forest Carbon, a process to develop accounting methods that would place a market value on the ability of forests to sequester greenhouse gasses and play a role in combating climate change.

In 2006, we partnered with TNC to introduce a program linking reforestation efforts to reducing the use of mailed bank statements by promoting the use of online statements. Thanks in part to this promotion, more than 4 million Bank of America customers are now receiving electronic statements in place of paper. We are currently working with TNC to expand this program.
