Less Paper, More Trees

Two out of three U.S. households are Bank of America customers. That's why a significant part of our business strategy is focused on encouraging retail customers and corporate clients to go digital -- and we are deploying significant resources to online banking and paperless initiatives.

For example, through a partnership with The Nature Conservancy, our "Bank Greener, Live Greener" initiative has already enabled consumer and business customers to save more than 8,000 tons of paper since 2004 by using online account statements, bill pay and ebills. These paperless services allow customers to manage their accounts and receive, view and pay bills entirely online. The impressive results are equivalent to:

  1. 156,941 trees
  2. Meeting the total energy needs of 3,146 homes for a year
  3. Eliminating the greenhouse gases emitted by 3,910 cars a year 38,613 18-wheelers in a year
  4. Reducing enough solid waste to fill 600 garbage trucks

The magnitude of savings like these demonstrate the positive impact we can have by harnessing the power of many individuals, each of whom has taken steps to make a difference.

Bank of America also offers a growing array of products and services to help corporate clients move away from paper to electronic processing.
